Centre Manager Update – 17th July 2026

Hope you are all having a lovely week, despite the disappointment of the football ☹ Quite a few important updates for you this week:

Staff news

This week is Harrison’s last week of contracted swimming teaching at Aspire. Harrison is definitely a favourite with the swimmers and will really be missed; however, he will still help out with cover work, and you will also see him in the pool with Aquatic Therapeutics, so it’s not a complete goodbye!

Cameron, our wonderful lifeguard, fitness instructor and duty manager, will be getting married in a couple of weeks. I am sure you will join me in wishing him and Bea a wonderful celebration.

19th July

Not only are the Affinity Water works due to start in Wood Lane on this day, but we have also been informed that there will be temporary road closures for the Rath Yatra Procession between 11am–5pm. It sounds like Wood Lane will be closed between the temple and Stanmore Hill for the start of the parade. More information is available here: Notice near HA3 and HA7.

If you are visiting in the evening or at the weekend, remember you can use the Brockley Hill entrance and park in the visitor car park: video instructions here.

Maintenance Updates

From mid-August to the end of October 2026, maintenance and refurbishment works will take place on the external fire escape ramp at the front of the sports hall.

During the works, the first-floor sports hall external fire escape route will be unavailable, but all other fire exit routes will remain operational.

The works will involve scaffolding and protective measures and are expected to take approximately 22 days to complete. During this period, the first row of parking spaces directly opposite the ramp will be unavailable for four days while shot blasting works are undertaken. To ensure continued access for visitors, the Hospital Trust will make its car park available for Aspire visitors throughout the works.

Further updates will be provided in the coming weeks.

I will be off on holiday next week, so Declan will be leading the team. Enjoy the last of the World Cup matches this weekend — and the Commonwealth Games to look forward to next!

Centre Manager Update – 10th July 2026

Thank goodness for our air-conditioned fitness studio – it’s been the best place to be this week!

We had our first Sri Lankan street food night yesterday. These will be in the café on Thursdays, 5–8.30pm. You can pre-order via WhatsApp on 07721 653111.

We have now found online information about the works in Wood Lane. Please be aware that there may be some delays from 19th July (not 9th, as the sign says!). If you are visiting in the evening or at the weekend, remember you can use the Brockley Hill entrance and park in the visitor car park: video instructions here.

Fundraising for Aspire – Aspire has places in some iconic runs in 2027. Explore some of the best cities in the country like never before, including London, Brighton and Manchester. We won’t have places for long, so find out more at http://www.aspire.org.uk/running or email [email protected].

I’m off to play hockey at the Summer Nations Masters tournament this weekend – I think I would rather be in our air-conditioned gym! Have a great weekend, everyone 😊
