Further to my update below, as well as having one full time lifeguard currently out of action due to a road traffic accident, our remaining 2 full time lifeguards have now both tested positive for Covid-19 and are isolating.

We are working on as hard as we can to cover but there may be times where we have to make some of the pool sessions shorter in order to allow for breaks.

The pool closing time will change to 9:30pm for the next 2 weeks.

Thank you for your understanding.

Dear members

If you have been reading my Centre Manager update on the App News, you will have seen that we have really struggled to recruit lifeguards.

At present we are looking for 2 full time lifeguards.

We have recruited extra casual cover, however many of these employees are students and will be coming in to exam season soon and will have limited availability.

Last week, one of our full time lifeguards was involved in a road traffic accident and it’s unclear at this time how long he will be off work for, but it is likely to be a few months.

We have exhausted lots of options such as contacting schools, colleges, running a cheaper lifeguard course and working with the job centre.

I will continue to do all I can to fill these positions, but it’s important that you are aware of the situation as there could be potential for us to make changes to the pool timetable to allow for breaks and cleaning. Lifeguards are only permitted to be on poolside for a limited time. Our management team are also helping by covering some shifts or helping during the day.

If you know of anyone that is looking for work, even if they don’t have a lifeguard qualification, so long as they can swim I would be more than happy to talk with them. We particularly need potential candidates to be able to work early mornings or weekdays / daytime.

Thank you.

Dean Tearle, Centre Manager
