We’re looking forward to welcoming you back to the Aspire Leisure Centre.  As the Government eases the ‘lock-down’ measures we are all starting to enjoy a little more freedom and soon we will be able to re-open our doors again.  The earliest suggested date from the Government, for us to reopen, is 4 July but we are still waiting on the official ‘go ahead’.  The UK Leisure Industry has now published operating guidelines to ensure the safety of staff and customers using leisure facilities.  We still await Swim England to publish their guidelines of the safe operations of swimming pool and swimming pool changing rooms which we hope to receive by the end of next week.  Once we have received these we will set to implement all necessary instructions.

Since we closed our doors on the 20th of March we have retained a small number of key staff to manage and maintain our facilities to ensure it is in the best possible condition for you to once again enjoy.  The Team has been examining the best possible solutions to maintain social distancing when entering and using the sports hall and gym.  It is likely that changing rooms will not re-open and therefore we will be asking members to arrive ready to workout, join a class or play badminton and return home to shower and change.  We will be doing everything we can to facilitate online bookings and contactless payments whilst limiting access to the centre initially to members only.  We know that most classes will operate with reduced numbers so we are looking to set up live video streamed attendance for those who cannot attend or who would prefer to access virtual classes at this time.

The gym will be set up with more space between equipment and we are considering spreading equipment into the Sports Hall to ensure you can workout in the knowledge that you are at least 2 meters apart.

As you know, we have frozen all memberships free of charge and will notify you of when we intend to unfreeze your membership to allow you to start booking in.  For those members who have paid for an annual membership we will automatically add on the time when the centre has been closed and unavailable to you.  If returning to use the centre physically or virtually is not for you then we will aim to give you the option to continue to freeze your membership for the time being.

We will write again in a few weeks to confirm the details of how we will welcome you back, once we have confirmation from the Government.  In the meantime we wish to say a massive thank you to those who gave personal donations in support of our Emergency Appeal, for those who donated the monthly fee of their membership or block booking and to everyone who has stayed a ‘frozen’ member.  Without your continued support there would be no Aspire Leisure Centre and we look forward to continuing to be possibly the most inclusive and accessible leisure facility in the world.

Very best wishes,

Brian Carlin
