One of the most rewarding parts of my job is to hear about the fabulous good news stories that come from our members. I was chatting to Mike (Specialist Fitness Instructor) a few weeks ago, who said that he has been helping a member call Robert and he would be a great person to speak to.

I caught up with Robert the following week and asked him a few questions:

  1. How did you hear about Aspire?

I heard about Aspire through one of the physios at Northwick Park Hospital.

  1. How long have you been coming to Aspire?

I joined at the end of May and began a programme in June.

  1. How many times a week do you attend?

I attend twice a week, one day to have a treatment with Lynda Keane in the pool and another with Mike in the gym.  I also come in when I can do some lengths in the pool.

  1. What equipment/training do you do in the gym?

I use the treadmill but at a fast walking pace and on an incline, usually for about 20 minutes.  I then use the bike, again for about 20 minutes and increase the resistance.  I then use the balance ball and medicine ball with Mike. All of this has really helped with my fitness and confidence.

  1. What treatment do you have with Lynda and how has this helped?

I spend an hour in the pool with Lynda and during this time she manipulates my muscles and helps with the movement of my joints, it’s like a full sports massage, which is great.

  1. What can you do now that you couldn’t do before?

My mobility has increased 80% over the last few months.  My overall quality of life has become better and my sleep is going from a few hours here and there to a reasonable sleep of 4-6 hours.

  1. Why would you recommend Aspire?

I would highly recommend Aspire to anyone who is considering it. The staff are amazing, unlike in a typical gym they look at every individual's current state and work out a plan. The team are always polite and willing to help.

  1. What is your next goal to achieve?

I now have a much better quality of life, feel good in myself too. I have been amazed with Mike and Lynda as I haven’t felt this good in a few years.  The centre advertises as a Leisure Centre and not a specific rehabilitation centre, if I had known about Aspire I certainly would have joined and used these excellent facilities years ago.
