As well as our induction and re-assessment service, we have a range of specialist services available to ensure that we meet the needs of all our customers. These services provide safe and appropriate ways to exercise for disabled people and those with long-term health conditions or injuries.

GP Referral

This nine month programme is for customers who have been referred by their GP to take up exercise as part of their rehabilitation or treatment process. A GP referral membership can only be taken up once, and existing members are not eligible for the scheme. The scheme is only open to those over the age of 18 years.

A referral form must be obtained from your GP prior to being seen by one of our instructors.

Assisted Exercise

Assisted exercise sessions are a great way to exercise for disabled people, and those with medical conditions or long-term injuries. Flexible hourly sessions with our qualified instructors will assist with rehabilitation and help you to achieve your general fitness goals.

Functional Electrical Stimulation Bike

Aspire is the only leisure centre that provides a Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) Bike as part of our gym equipment. The FES bike allows you to stimulate your core leg muscles, even if you have lost some or all voluntary control of them. The FES bike works by delivering a small electrical current through sticky pads placed on the skin to stimulate the nerves.

Standing Frame

This assistive technology equipment can be used by anyone who relies on the use of a wheelchair for mobility. The standing frame provides alternative positioning to sitting in a wheelchair by supporting the person in a standing position. This helps to create a wider variety of ways to exercise for disabled people.
